Happy birthday to me!

Today is my 40th birthday!  WooHoo!  I thought this picture was quite appropriate.  I used to play PacMan (and Frogger and Asteroids! LOL) on the Atari way back in the early 80s.  :)

Don't forget about the birthday present I'm giving YOU!  (You can click on the picture to view it larger.)

Saturday Sketch Skip

Happy Saturday!  It's time for another Sketch Challenge on the UDI blog.  Here is the sketch Carol gave us for today.

I started out with a Very Vanilla card base.  The next layers are Basic Black and Baja Breeze.  The Baja Breeze was run through the Big Shot in the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder.  I sponged the edges and the raised design with Baja Breeze ink.  The strip and image layers are Basic Black and Very Vanilla.  The Very Vanilla was sponged with Baja Breeze. The focal image is Vintage Vogue stamped and stamped off in Baja Breeze.  The strip is the Very Vintage wheel.  I had lots of fun with that.  I don't have a Baja Breeze marker or ink pad.  I do have a Baja Breeze re-inker and sponge daubers.  I used a clamshell stamp case as my palette.  I sponged the ink on the wheel and huffed on it to make sure it wasn't dry.  It worked very well.  An ink pad would have been much easier, but at least I can tell you that you can use the wheel with just a re-inker and sponge dauber.  ;)  I lined up the brads using the Mat Pack.  The Very Vanilla taffeta is tied around the wheeled strip by cutting a slit in the side of the strip with my craft knife.  I am very pleased with the final result.  I think this card can be used for many different occasions, so I left it sentiment-free for now.

Time to move on now.  Leave me a comment and let me know what you think about my Very Vintage Vogue card, and then you can head on over to Leonie's blog (Jeannette is away today) or to the UDI blog.  (We're all linked up, but Carol has all the links on the UDI blog as well just in case.)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Supplies(all SU!):  Stamps- Vintage Vogue.  Ink- Baja Breeze.  Paper- Very Vanilla, Baja Breeze, Basic Black.  Accessories-  Big Shot, Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, Very Vanilla brads, Very Vanilla taffeta, mat pack, sponge dauber.

Inspiration Challenge #104

Hello!  Happy Thursday!  It's time for another UDI inspiration challenge.  Here's the picture we had to work with this week.  I took my inspiration from the colors.  I saw Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo, Marina Mist & Basic Black.

I incorporated all the colors into a card for my grandmother who lost her husband of 60+ years on Tuesday.  I didn't make a sympathy card...it's a thinking of you card.  I wanted something happy.  Do you think it's appropriate?

The card base is Melon Mambo followed by a layer of Basic Black.  I stamped the flowers from Flower Fancy on Whisper White in Marina Mist, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo.  I filled in some of the white space with doodle dots in Basic Black.  The Whisper White piece was then run through the Big Shot in the Square Lattice embossing folder.  The sentiment from Thoughts & Prayers was stamped in Basic Black, punched out with the Wide Oval punch and then layered on a Basic Black die-cut from a Lots of Tags sizzlit.  A piece of retired (I haven't ordered from the new catalog yet...shocking, huh?!) Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon finishes the card.

Feel free to leave me a comment, and then head on over to the UDI blog to see what the rest of the design team has created for you.

A Mix of Old & New

Today's card is a mix of old and new.  The Brocade Blue and Almost Amethyst colors are now retired as is the Certainly Celery ribbon.  The stamp set and the embossing folder are new.  The stamp set is a Level 1 Hostess set.  Vintage Wallpaper is one of 2 new embossing folders in the 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog.

My little one is getting better slowly but surely.  Thanks for all your well wishes.  On a sad note, I am taking the kids to see their great-grandfather tomorrow for what may be the last time.  The doctor didn't think he would make it through the day Friday, but he did.  He is in a hospice facility now.  This will be the first time my kids have to deal with something like this now that they are older.

Well, as I am sitting here writing this, my MIL called.  We won't be making that trip tomorrow after all.  Her father passed away today.  I would appreciate any prayers you can send this way.  They will certainly be needed.

Skipping the Saturday Sketch Skip

I'm posting this on Friday night, but I hope you have a sensational Saturday.  I have spent the day looking after a sick little girl, and I didn't take the time to stamp.  If she is feeling better tomorrow (Saturday), I will post, but I'm not promising anything.

Here is the sketch for this week.  Head on over to Jeannette's blog to see what she created and then continue on with the skip from there.

UDI Inspiration Challenge #103

It's Thursday again already!  Where does the week go?  It can't be that Monday was a holiday...I had to work.  Yes, I'm whining.  LOL  Anyway,  it's time for another Inspiration Challenge.  Here is the picture Maria sent us for this week.   I took my inspiration from the colors.

I wanted to use a set from the new IB&C.  It's called Artistic Etchings.  I stamped the medallion in Versamark on Whisper White and then embossed with Clear EP.  I sponged Real Red and Night of Navy ink randomly all over the cardstock.  The focal image and sentiment are stamped in Night of Navy, and the edges were sponged.  The sentiment was punched with the Large Oval and layered on the Scalloped Oval punch.  Whisper White taffeta is the finishing touch.

Let me know what you think of my final product, then head on over to the UDI blog to see what the other team members created.

Supplies(all SU!):  Stamps- Artistic Etchings.  Ink- Versamark, Real Red, Night of Navy.  Paper- Whisper White, Real Red.  Accessories-  Clear EP, Large Oval punch, Scalloped Oval punch, Whisper White taffeta.

Saturday Sketch Skip

Good Saturday morning!  Happy 4th of July weekend!  It's time for another UDI Sketch Challenge.  Here's the sketch Carol challenged us with today.

The sketch was a really difficult one for me.  I could not get an even diamond shape.  I finally gave up and cut some triangles.  ;)   I used lots of new stuff for my card.  There's Newsprint DSP, the Artistic Etchings stamp set and Cherry Cobbler ink.

I think I like the final product.  How about you?

Next on the sketch skip is Jeannette.  I'm sure she has something beautiful for you this morning.  Head on over there or back to the UDI blog.  Carol has all the links to the team members there if there is a missing or broken link in the skip.  :)

Supplies(all SU!):  Stamps- Artistic Etchings.  Ink- Cherry Cobbler, Jet Black Stazon.  Paper- Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Newsprint DSP.  Accessories-  Very Vanilla taffeta.

Enjoy your weekend!

Bold Brights Birthday!

Happy Thursday! Hello, 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog!  I'll have a link to it as soon as it's live...that's 2 pm ET.  Now onto the real reason for your visit. ;)  It's time for another UDI Inspiration Challenge! Here is the picture Maria chose for us today. Robert's birthday was Tuesday, so I used the picture as inspiration for his card. I used the colors and the theme. Matches light birthday candles...birthday card...get it? LOL Anyway, on to the card.

Since Robert turned 40, I just had to make his card extra fun!  ;)  I used lots of retiring Bold Brights colors... Brilliant Blue, Only Orange, Glorious Green, YoYo Yellow and Lovely Lilac.  The other colors are sticking around...Real Red and Tempting Turquoise.  The card base is Real Red and the next layer is Whisper White run through the Big Shot in the Square Lattice embossing folder.  The color-blocked squares are layered on to another piece of Whisper White so I could get them straight.  The images and sentiment are from Party Hearty.  I used lots of fun punches, too...the 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch, the 1 3/4" Circle Punch, the 3/4" Circle punch, the Word Window punch and the Modern Label punch.

You can see what all the team members created for you today by heading over to the UDI blog.  Before you go, let me know what you think of my Bold Brights Birthday card!  :)
